Welcome to year 3- I hope you had a fantastic Summer holiday.
During year 3 we aim for the children to become independent learners who always have a go! The children learn to take more responsibility for themselves and their learning. We encourage them to aim high and to challenge themselves.
This half term our research project is ‘Rainforests’. We will learn about the layers of the rainforest and create pictures and diagrams that show this. We will look at the flora and fauna in the rainforest and think about why they live in the layers that they do. The children will complete some artwork based on the book called ‘Window’ and will investigate deforestation, as illustrated in the book. In computing the children will learn about blogging and we will set up our class blog and discuss how to stay safe online. More information can be found on our research project map, which can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.
In English we will begin our film project : El Dorado. I can’t give away too much now…but the children will be writing, starring in and directing their own film. This will run all the way up to Christmas. Please continue to read daily with your child, at least 5 pages a night. Children need their books in school every day.
In Year 3 the children will require their swimming kit on a Wednesday and their PE kit on a Tuesday. However, P.E. kits should be in school every day. Homework, including words of the week will be sent home in the home/ school diaries on a Friday and should be returned by Wednesday of the following week. Diaries should also be in school each day for staff to write in. In Year 3 the children change their own reading books when they need to and there are opportunities to do this daily. Year 3 use ‘class dojo’ to communicate with parents about behaviour and every day activities in our classroom- just ask if you need an invite code.
I am looking forward to an exciting term in year 3. If you have any problems or worries please don’t hesitate to pop in.
