Year 3

=========== =====

Mrs Finch Mrs Finch is our Class Teacher Mrs Gaskell Mrs Gaskell is our Teaching Assistant

Welcome to year 3- I hope you had a fantastic break over half term and are ready and raring to go for a very busy few weeks ahead of us!

During year 3 we aim for the children to become independent learners who always have a go! The children learn to take more responsibility for themselves and their learning. We encourage them to aim high and to challenge themselves.

This half term our research project is ‘From the stone age to the iron age’. We will learn about stone age homes, food, hunting and many other things. We’ll have a little look at ‘the flinstones’ and compare it to the real stone age! The children will create cave paintings, stone age pots among other stone age craft work. More details can be found below. This term brings Christmas excitement and the children will soon begin to learn carols to perform at our Christmas carol concert.

In English we are in the middle of our film project : El Dorado. So far our heroes (made up by the children) have received a letter, gone to Colombia, been kidnapped and rescued… but what will happen next?! How the tale unfolds is totally up to the children- so I’m looking forward to finding out myself! We begin to write scripts now and the children will be bringing some of these home to learn lines. We will then continue to film our scenes until we reach the grand finale!

In Year 3 the children will require their swimming kit on a Wednesday and their PE kit on a Tuesday. However, P.E. kits should be in school every day. Homework, including words of the week will be sent home in the home/ school diaries on a Friday and should be returned by Wednesday of the following week. Diaries should also be in school each day for staff to write in. In Year 3 the children change their own reading books when they need to and there are opportunities to do this daily. Please continue to read daily with your child, at least 5 pages a night. Children need their books in school every day. Year 3 use ‘class dojo’ to communicate with parents about behaviour and every day activities in our classroom- just ask if you need an invite code.

If you have any problems or worries please don’t hesitate to pop in.
